There is a special place in my heart for November weddings. My own wedding was in November, and there is something about the coziness of a cool autumn day that makes a couple's love shine even brighter. It also doesn't hurt to have a couple as lovely as Jordan and Eric, a duo who radiated warmth and kindness from the moment I met them.

Mandy and Matt's story could make even the biggest cynic believe in fate. They managed to find each other even though they were born thousands of miles apart (Matt hails from Hawaii- not exactly near Buffalo) and, as fate would have it, found themselves in the same gym in Western New York. I was lucky enough to be present when they tied the knot on November 18th, and the rest is history.

Skidmore feels like home within a week of stepping on campus. At least that's how it was for me- the small size of the campus and the cozy dorms make for a warm and inviting environment that feels comfortable immediately. Sure, Skidmore's campus is not as architecturally beautiful as some other schools, but the brick buildings and mountain views (check out the penthouse of Jonsson Tower!) make the school beautiful in its own way. When the weather gets warm there are plenty of places to sit outside and do work, and my personal favorite part is the grass by Haupt pond, where you can usually find students napping or playing frisbee on warm days.

Adjusting to a new environment is always hard, especially when that new environment is college. I know that when I was a Freshman in college, I often felt clueless or even intimidated by my brand-new surroundings. Now however, as a senior, I consider myself a seasoned veteran of the ways of college. So, whether you are a Freshman or a transfer student, never fear! I’m here to share the top five things that I wish I knew as a new student at Skidmore.

If you're someone who celebrates Christmas, you know that everyone has a different idea of when the "appropriate" time is to start getting into the holiday spirit. Some people start after Halloween, some after Thanksgiving, and some people listen to Christmas music year-round. Over the years I have found this to be a divisive topic; in my house, we put on the holiday radio station for the first time in the car on the way home from Thanksgiving. I have spent a good portion of my life regretting things that I should have done, but was too afraid to do. For someone who is prone to overthinking, every decision is a monumental hurdle to get over. Most of the time I end up going with the easiest decision, with the safest decision, but, as 2016 has taught me, that is not always the best decision. Since entering college I have found that each decision holds more weight than before, whether it pushes me toward a new career path, toward new friends, or away from people I would have liked to get to know.

As of now I am defined by the halls that I have walked through, the fields I have (or have not) played sports on, and the people I have chosen to surround myself with. In a month, all of that will start to change. As I move to a new town and letters arrive to a new address, I will already be more than my hometown has ever seen. To the high school graduating class of 2016, this last month is bittersweet.

According to Google Maps, I am approximately 193 kilometers from the nearest coastline. After conversion (thanks again, Google!) that is about 125 miles, give or take a few. I had to approximate the nearest coastline, but that seems like a fair estimate. In comparison, school (Skidmore College, NY) to home is about 200 miles, so technically I guess I’m nearer to the sea in Paris than I am in Saratoga Springs. I don’t know if that means I’m not allowed to use “she who lives by the sea” anymore, b
